Our Practice
What is Med Peds?
Med Peds is the combination of Internal Medicine (primary care for adults) and Pediatrics (primary care for infants, children and adolescents). After medical school, a four year residency is simultaneously completed in both fields. Preventive medicine is strongly emphasized for both children and adults. The combined specialty also provides training in a wide variety of illnesses and chronic medical conditions, including but not limited to: high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, lung problems and gastrointestinal disorders. Doctors in this field are able to act as Primary Care Physicians (PCP's) for their patients.
What is Board Certification?
Board Certification is obtained after the completion of a residency. All areas of medical practice have national medical boards which certify physicians. A comprehensive exam is required to ensure adequate knowledge has been obtained during medical school and residency training. After completion of a four year Med Peds residency training program, board exams are administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics. Board certification is of utmost importance when choosing a physician to ensure competency in the field of expertise.
